A group of 9 members of Colwall Rotary Club paid a visit to Berlin last weekend.

Collecting our Bikes in BerlinOne of the objects of Rotary is to Promote International Understanding & Goodwill through visits, exchanges and other means.

During this visit we met with a local club - The Rotary Club of Berlin Unter den Linden, where we were made extrememly welcome; to such an extent that they held the meeting totaly in English! I think that we would struggle to return the compliment.

Featuring amongst other acivities a cycle ride through the city centre on Sunday morning and a visit the to DDR Museum all the group achieved a greater understanding of what the city has been through. The general feeling was that this was a place to go back to.

Local Rotary Clubs raised over £300,000 by public collection immediately after the Tsunami in January 2005.
Within a few months Rotary supplied over 100 Shelter Boxes and 78 Fishing Boats to help provide food and income for the communities in two villages in South East India.
Providing new homes and facilities in India and Sri Lanka was then a priority but with villages being moved away from the beaches new roads had to be built and Government permission obtained.

Following the tragedy on Boxing Day 2004, Colwall Rotary Club joined with other Rotary Clubs from District 1100 and sent a donation of £1000 for immediate relief work. As is the case with all Rotary charitable giving overseas, this was channelled through the Rotary Club of Guntur in India (part of District 3150).
